Candidate Accomplishments
Meet the Candidates
President
Amy Myers
I am running for the Elm Ridge Water Control Improvement District Board of Directors. I am the current President of the Board of Directors and have served the communities of Savannah, Artesia and ArrowBrooke proudly for the last 9 years.
While in my current tenure on the Board of Directors I have repeatedly voted yes for the lowering of the tax rate, the increase in the over 65 tax exemption, the creation of and maintenance of our Elm Ridge Police Department, the development of the ArrowBrooke park, the upcoming Artesia water line, along with countless other projects. The Board and I have maintained an AA/A2 rating with our creditors and have kept a balanced budget that looks at the needs of all of our communities to maintain freshwater, roads, wastewater, police, fire, and garbage service. It has always been my stance to serve the three communities by being a good steward of our tax dollars while maintaining our facilities and preparing for our district's future. I understand that as with any political office, my decisions, and those of the other board members, is for the betterment of the district I serve and not my own agenda.
I am the proud mom of a 20-year-old son Aiden and 17-year-old daughter Aurora. We have lived in Savannah for the last 15 years. We owned our first home in the Sea Pines area and after selling that home, we rented a home for two years and now have purchased that rental home. Both my children have attended Savannah Elementary, Navo Middle School and Braswell High School. We have loved living here in Savannah and have been involved in Savannah, the surrounding community, and Elm Ridge WCID.
Currently I am working as the Administrative Services Manager for a private security company overseeing their Human Resources, Logistics, Travel Management, and general administrative duties. I work with hundreds of off duty police officers, off duty firefighters and security professionals. I have served as a board member for over 6 years on the PTAs of both Savannah Elementary and Navo Middle School. Being elected as president, vice president, and communications chair during that tenure. I have also served on the Denton Council of PTAs in a board position for 6 years including vice president and community relations co-chair. Recently I have been a member of the Braswell High School PTSA. I believe in education and find PTA a rewarding way to give assistance to those teachers and administrators who teach our students daily.
I have served on the Citizen's Bond Committee for Denton Independent School District for two bond cycles and chaired the oversite committee during that tenure. Working closely with district administration, contractors, and community members to ensure the successful growth of the school district and its facilities including the creation of Braswell High School. I have also sat on the 380-taskforce while on the Citizen's Bond Committee bringing community members together with local businesses regarding growth and changes along the 380 corridor.
Being a true believer in giving back, I have always believed it is important to serve the communities where you live and raise your family. A belief I have passed down to both my children. I am community minded, fiscally responsible and hold two bachelor's degrees and a master's degree. I would be honored to continue to serve Elm Ridge Water Control Improvement District for the next 4 years.
Secretary
Maggie Hernandez
I’m proud to announce my candidacy for the Elm Ridge Water Control and Improvement District Board of Directors. I have been a member of the Elm Ridge Board of Directors since May, 2020 and currently serve as the board Secretary. I believe my professional experience helped prepare me well for the role. I apply my commitment to serving the community, reasonable decision making, and professional ethics to this position at all times; always keeping in mind the needs and best interests of the citizens in each
community, not just my own. I’m always happy to listen to and address the needs and concerns of the citizens.
During my time on the board, I have consistently voted to reduce the property tax rate each year, and to increase the tax exemption for citizens over the age of 65 twice. I also approved the Arrowbrooke Park concession stand, Prosper Fire Plan for Artesia, Artesia water line, supported the Elm Ridge police department, and various other projects. I focus on long term solutions and planning for the entire district, whenever possible. I believe in responsible spending and planning in order to keep taxes reasonably low. As a result of my and the board’s budget management, the district has achieved an excellent A2 credit rating that appeals to investors during bond sales, attracting competitive interest rates. In addition, I serve on the district’s Communications and Facilities committees, helping to improve overall transparency.
I grew up in the Carrollton area and am a University of North Texas graduate. My family and I have owned a home in Savannah since 2013, and owned in Denton for 8 years prior. I’ve seen some considerable growth in our area during these years! I have been married to my husband, Fabian, for 20 years. I am the proud mother of 2 daughters and have 2 beloved dogs. My oldest, Autumn, was among the first graduating class of Braswell High School, is now a Texas A&M graduate and currently a 2nd grade teacher at Windsong Ranch Elementary School. And 17 year old Emma is in 11th grade, currently homeschooled, and has aspirations of moving to New York to pursue a career in costume design or film after graduating. In the little free time I have, I enjoy traveling, live music, cooking, dancing, yoga, home improvement, and overall wellness.
My professional experience is primarily in the real estate industry. I have been a Realtor for many years, earning the Rookie of the Year award during my first year. My current focus is mostly working with residential home builders. I also have experience in property management, commercial real estate, marketing, retail, and consulting. In addition to my professional career, I believe strongly in giving back. I am a member of the Denton County Medical Reserve Corp and volunteered to work numerous shifts during the COVID pandemic at Denton County’s drive-through COVID testing and vaccine clinics, including the Texas Motor Speedway clinic. I have also served as a member of my previous HOA’s architectural control board and several PTAs and Booster Club boards within Denton ISD. I was the first President of the Braswell High School Cheer Booster Club and wrote the club’s bylaws when the school opened.
I would be honored to earn your vote for the Elm Ridge Water Control and Improvement District
Board of Directors and to continue to serve the community for the next 4 years.
Vice President
Jon TenBroeck
I am pleased to announce that I am running for election as a Director for the Elm Ridge Water Control
Improvement District. I currently serve the district as the Vice President of the Board.
My family has lived in Savannah for 19 years. We love being a part of this community and have enjoyed our time here. My son had a great experience at Savannah Elementary, Navo Middle School, and graduated from Braswell High School. My wife has worked as an educator in Denton ISD for the past 11 years.
I have been active in the community and am always willing to contribute my time and experience. Over the past 15 years, I have served on the HOA Safety Committee, Advisory Board Committee, and Pool Committee. My volunteer activities include working on various events such as parades, fireworks, etc., and providing weekly crime watch patrols.
My career experience includes law enforcement, corporate security, and property management. I have been a Human Resources senior leader for large corporations for over 20 years. My expertise includes legal compliance, performance management, employee relations, training, conflict resolution, and
change leadership. I hold a Senior HR Professional Certification (SPHR) and a Master Certificate in High-Performance Leadership. I am a huge advocate of servant leadership and practice that daily.
Over the years, I have been active in several organizations, including the National Eagle Scout Association, Dallas HR Management Association, and the Association of Water Board of Directors. Some of my other volunteer experience includes Advisor-Elm Ridge Explorer Post 1190, Boy Scouts of America, United Way, and March of Dimes.
I have been fully engaged in many accomplishments during my tenure on the Elm Ridge WCID Board of Directors. As a member of the Elm Ridge Public Safety Committee, I contributed to forming a newly created police department dedicated to solely serving the district. That police department, entirely focused on community policing, has reduced crime in all three communities, making them the safest on the 380 corridor.
As a Director on the Elm Ridge Board, I have voted consistently in favor of lowering the tax rates for the last three years and will continue to do so. In addition, I have been a strong proponent of establishing a tax exemption for homeowners over age 65 and disabled homeowners and have voted to increase
that exemption amount for the last four years in a row.
I am proud of our Board's accomplishment of creating a district park in Arrowbrooke, where we recently added a concession facility and are planning for improved parking. I strongly supported a new fire plan for Artesia, which allowed Prosper Fire Department to serve that community with a faster response time.
We are currently planning a new water line and water storage tank for Artesia, providing greater water capacity and reliability.
I am committed to serving all three communities equally and focusing on each community's needs. I look forward to continue serving Elm Ridge's residents and hope to earn your vote.
